About Rosa - Flamenco dancer and choreographer

Rosa Olympia Estrella began her studies in flamenco at the age of 8 with Enrique el Canastero and Mariquilla in the Albaycin district of Granada Spain. Continuing her studies at the Dance Conservatory in Classical Spanish Dance and Flamenco and then moving to Seville, Spain, were she studies Manolo Marin, La Tona, Milagros Menjibar and choreographic master Javier Latorre. Rosas dance training includes jazz, tap and contemporary dance over the course of her career with the main instruction occurring in the United States at Broadway Dance Center and Jose Limon in New York City.

Rosa became a soloist and fusion choreographer from the beginning of her career and is known for successfully incorporating varying dance styles and disciplines into her work. Fusion being her specialty, she has incorporated classical, jazz, tap, break-dance, Balinese, West African, and many Latin styles into her choreographies. She has taught and performed throughout her native Spain, as well as Japan, Scandinavia, Canada, Romania, Austria, Poland and across the United States.

Rosa's most noted choreographic works are

Flamenco Blue: The critically acclaimed show that debuted Off-Broadway in April 2000 and ran until January 2002. This show is a fusion of American Blues-Jazz and Tap with Flamenco music and dance.

Women of Quixote: Based on four female characters of the book, Don Quixote, which debuted at the Cervantes Festival in Bucharest Romania, 2004.

Hesperion: Commissioned by the Ballet Oleg Danovski of Romania, for their company of 22 dancers. Based on events surrounding a Sephardic Jewish community in Romania and is set to flamenco and Sephardic music.

Angelfire Underground: A contemporary piece for 13 dancers inspired by NYC, the subway, rhythmic pulse energy and dynamics of New York. Debuted in 2005 and toured throughout Eastern Europe

Travelers Dream Pub: A neo-classic piece set to various contemporary classical composers is reflective of a dream state, where desire crosses fantasy and dream becomes reality. Debuted in 2005 and toured through Eastern Europe.

As a dancer and choreographer, Rosa is pure, modern, technically advanced fluid, powerful and highly personal. Rosa's dancing and choreographic work has been described as:

Rosa has received funding for her work from the European Jewish Association, Ella Lyman Cabot Trust, US State Department, Junta de Andalucia, Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Instituto Cervantes and New York Foundation for the Arts to name a few.

Rosa teaches regularly around the world. Speaking fluent Spanish and English with a basic command of German and Romanian as well.
